On September 30, 1942, my Grandfather Chikayasu wrote a letter to the justice department while he was imprisoned in Lordsburg Internment Camp in New Mexico. He had been separated from his wife and seven children for several months and asked to be reunited with his family. After a year, they were allowed to be together at Crystal City Alien Enemy Detention Center in Texas. This was the first time Chikayasu saw his newborn child, who was already over a year old.
