Kiri Kawata grew up on a farm in Ibaraki, Japan. When she was nineteen, she married Chikayasu Inaba. She moved to America and lived and worked on their farm in Riverside, California for fifty-six years. She had seven children, lived through the Great Depression and was imprisoned during WWII for four years. No wonder she became the “Ultimate Recycler.”

Grandma, the Ultimate Recycler is in the Special Collections of the F. W. Olin Library at Mills College, Oakland, Ca.
